  • Halloween Costumes

We asked you if Halloween costumes have gotten too risque.

I can't believe this made the news. When every year I see more sexually explicit costums worn mostly by young girls. If parents were really concerned, they wouldn't let their children go out that way. -- Edith

Please....halloween is time for ANY one at ANY age to dress up and have FUN.Levels of fun differ because of age differences and if it takes Down on Dragula, then that's what it takes. If parents don't want their kids looking at adult costumes, then it's this simple WATCH OVER THEM AND DON'T ALLOW THEN TO GO TOWARDS THE ADULT ASILES!!! Those customes aren't gonna dissapear because of whiny, closed-eyed, closed_minded, can't-keep-their-child-from-going-into-the-wrong-aisle(s) parents! -- Karen

Stores should gather pictures of all inappropriate costumes into some sort of binder only accessible to adults. This will avoid or minimize having things "misplaced" and attracting the wrong attention. Here is something to think of, "What can the public do when walking trick or treating and passing someone with the right to wear which ever costume he/ she like? -- X

Yes!!! Halloween costumes now cover the whole range of the grotesque. Sexual, violent, and gruesome. It is sad that our children not only have to see these things, but watch as grown adults revel and enjoy these things. There is only one thing this teaches them, and it's very sad. -- Vikki

Now a days, i do think that costumes are becoming more adult looking. I recently went to a costume store like that in Mission Valley and i was surprised to see younger kids costumes are becoming shorter too. I thought halloween was supposed to be fun and scary not who can show your butt, breasts, and how sexual your costume can be. -- Margarrette

This is another case of over socially convservative parents policing society. Now it;s if a Halloween costume isn't politicaly correct, they bully the company into not display it, or even being able to purchase to adults which is who is was meant for in the first place. -- Marcus

Halloween, through the marketing efforts of manufacturers and marketers - has become a holiday for all ages. For the adults who choose to purchase and wear "adult" costumes - just do it and act responsibility. The focus on Halloween should remain mostly for the kids to enjoy. -- Rico

Look it's only a costume I worked retail for years already and it's true people grab things and don't care were they leave them and bringing this forward will make people want it more so should I say thank u for boosting are economy -- Chris

Halloween is about having fun with friends,if that means wearing a costume thats a bit risque so be it, other people dont have to look. -- Michelle

Halloween is a very well known holiday to children. Risque costumes should not be worn our in public. -- Norma

IF THE ONE WOMAN IN YOUR STORY IS SO CONCERNED ABOUT THE SEXUAL NATURE OF THE COSTUMING, PERHAPS BEFORE SHE LEAVES THE HOUSE SHE SHOULD COVER HER BREASTS..REALLY, HER TOP WAS JUST A BIT TOO LOW CUT TO TRY TO PLAY THE PRUDE. -- Rob

  • Border Security

We asked you about the theory that stepped up border security is costing lives.

Illegal Mexican immigrants are dying more, not because the US is slow on amnesty, but because of the deplorable conditions in Mexico. The US owes nothing to these people. This boat is full and can't take any more passengers. -- Albert

Crossing the boarder illegally is a risky crime, and it should be the responsibility of the Mexican government to educate and bring awareness to the issues. We should not adjust our immigration policies simply because too many people are breaking the law. That is bit backwards if you ask me, and simply against American values – no matter what the crime. -- Juan

Regarding the story about how many illegal border crossers die due to tighter border enforcement. If I go into the desert, legally, and don't take precautions -- I could die. That's my fault. If people try to enter the country illegally and don't take precautions -- they could die. That's their fault. -- Bill

I think that the ACLU is causing more problems than they ever solve. They stick the noses into so many places and does not appear to have full understanding of the issues. I think it would be a great help to our country if they were disbanded. Where in the world did the get the bright idea that our immigration people would intentionally try to kill thousands of people by leaving them to die in remote area, did those people make the choices themselves. We keep hearing about what happens to the illegal immigrants being harassed, but they should have to follow the laws to become legal. -- James

Since when does the United States have to conform their policies regarding Immigration to suit another country?? Wake up people. Instead of condeming our government for trying to keep illegals out of our country and off our welfare payroll, you should be mad at the Mexican government for not doing more for their people and trying to keep them on their own side of the border. -- Leigh Ann

I thought I had heard it all, until you ran the story of enforced border protection causing 5000 deaths. That is about the lamest argument I ever heard. last I checked, illegals had capacity and chose to try and break our laws and come here. Sounds like it's Mexicos fault not ours. -- John

I think that there is not enough enforcement along the border. Just look at the USBP check points on I-15 and I-5 As far as i can see they are never open. It's tragic that people or dying trying to get into the United States, but the US Govt. has to draw the line some where. -- Pat

A fence does not cause people to be stupid enough to cross in a desert where they know they can die. Stay home amigo. -- James Jolly

The borders should be left as they are. As unfortunate as it may be, there has to be consequences for crossing our borders illegally. -- Drew

  • College Cuts

We asked your opinion about the cuts in the UC system.

I went to community college on the east coast and the rates are about 8 times higher than they are in California. I think Californians are just used to the low admissions, and now they are increasing the rates to meet the national average. But, it is still unfair that the class sizes are so big and there's no counselors available to meet with students. -- Brandon

I love it. Now these liberal professors and unions are drowning in their on liberalism. They encourage this state to give tax dollars to every cause that comes down the pike and now there is no money. This is a teaching moment. Ha. -- james Jolly

I am a student, oringinally from Pennsylvania. I attended a state school there, and now am paying back over $23,000 in school loans. I think that students here in CA need to understand that they have it easy compared to other people across the country, who don't have access to education the way that Californians do. The state is broke; deal with it. If you need to pay a few thousand dollars in "fees" to go to a state school you should realize how lucky you are that you are not encruing massave amounts of loans and that your education out here is so obtainable. You can't protest both layoffs and fee hikes- the money needs to come from somewhere! -- Allie

College is completely optional. College students should feel lucky that there is any sort of government subsidies for them. When money is tight you have to make concessions. I would rather see money taken from the college system than K-12 -- Jason

  • Border Shooting

We asked your opinions on the shooting at the border yesterday.

Border Patrol agents have a dangerous job and put their lives on the line everyday to keep our borders safe. I feel that they were justified in their decision yesterday considering the situation they were in. It is unfortunate innocent people's lives were in danger, including the agents but, that is not the fault of the agents. The smugglers should be held accountable and to be blamed for their selfish and senseless acts held against everyone involved in yesterdays shooting. -- M.Thomas

The illegal smuglers did not care who they kill are run over why do you give the people that second guess the officers that did what they are trained to do to protect the USA air time? -- Bob

This problem could be solved very easily if Mexico would keep their people on their side of the border. These guys are criminals I support the agents. -- Georgie

I'm so tired of hearing about the poor criminals being shot at by law enforcement. The right to second-guess officers' actions should be held only by those who are willing to pick up a firearm, stand a post and put themselves in harms way to protect our country. The accountability needs to be with the coyotes endangering lives, not law enforcement. -- Paul

Either the border patrol agents are not trained according to the pursuit of their ocupation, or maybe this being "neighbors" is just patronizing petulance -- Alvar

The Border Patrol exists to protect the borders of the USA. In this age of terrorism, a group of vehicles attempting to crash their way into our country MUST be stopped. The border agents acted properly. We're proud of them. -- Jason

For all those agents knew, those vans could have had bombs, radioactive material, terrorists, etc. There job is to PROTECT our country and their own lives, not be concerned with WHY 3 vans appear to be running them down. I'm certainly glad no one was killed, but job well done guys. -- Kerry

Check into to the actions of the patrol agents? How about checking into the 3 human traffickers that stormed the border in vans filled with illegal aliens? For an agency to point blame at the U.S for protecting its borders, this is ridiculous! We have every right to protect our border as they do there’s. IN my opinion they did the right thing, how many illegals DIDN’T get across the border yesterday, how many tax dollars didn’t go to waist? Thank you border patrol agents! -- Ashley

I believe that the officers were justified for using deadly force to protect our borders. Smugglers and illegals both know what they were doing was wrong, but they continue to try and come in the U.S. illegaly. Our border should be protected!!!!! -- Billy

What some fail to realize is that, these smugglers were breaking the law; with that if the officers at the scene felt their lives were in danger the shooting was justified. When you decide to venture outside the laws set forth in a society you should be prepared to receive the consequences. Ignorance of the law is NEVER an excuse, nor is thinking you will get special treatment because of any legal status you might have. -- Brad

While I agree it is unfair that some of the innocent bystanders got caught in the crossfire, when are the Mexican citizens gonna get the drift that you CANNOT come into this country illegaly and expect to receive all the benefits that American citizens are entitled to, and most of our citizens dont even have access to it. This is America, we fight for our freedom and I for one dont like it when others try to come and take advantage of our system. If they want to come to America, let them do it LEGALLY. Those CBP officers take risks every single day they are on the job. Thank you for what you do. -- Leigh

I feel the shooting at the boarder was justified. the agent should be prased for proforming their jobs. in the military we are trained the mission takes priority. -- Herny

Any agency that trains it's personnel on Force Protection, are taught that a gun is used as a last resort or if you or your comrades lives are in danger, if the agent felt his/her life was in danger he/she has an obligation to protect themselves and their fellow members. A car charging towards you could be considered having your life in jeopardy. If that is in fact the case after the investigation, the officer had every right to discharge his/her weapon. -- Mark

They did the right thing. They didn't know what type of threat was coming at them. Smugglers or terrorist. -- Julio

They were illegals! The agents felt trapped by the vans trying to force their way across the border. They were justified. What is wrong with the liberals groups condemning this. These people were illegal and forcing their way across the border. Give me a break from this liberalism. -- Murray

Law Enforcement officials shot at criminals and lawbreakers who put their lives in danger. Case closed. The woman from the American Friends Service Committee should have a van load of criminals driving straight towards her and see what she does. -- Bob

"Friends" of what. These morons are the one's I want investigated. Are they another Acorn type organization getting tax money. I am sick of these "bleeding hearts". -- James Jolly

Uncalled For!! Every lane to exit the border station after you cross has tire piercing devices, they could have easily stopped the vehicles without having to open fire and put people in danger. Besides, INS should trigger businesses that hire illegal aliens instead of trying to stop the flow through the border. -- Cacho

The agents actions put many innocent bystanders lives at risk. The agents have a right to defend themselves...but when they make a decision to discharge their firearms in an area in which there are thousands of travelers, then that's a policy that needs to be reevaluated. -- Ron

I am very pleased with the action that our CBP Officer's took in yesterday's event. Its impossible for someone who was not there and did not see a 3000+ pound vehicle coming towards them give an opinion as to wether or not the officers were justified to shoot. I am sick and tired of all these civil liberties groups doubting our officers decisions. Its for these reasons why our officers often times second guess themselves on wether or not to shoot even when their own lives are at risk. These officers did what they had to do and let's not give the smugglers another tool (the justice system) to get out of their problems. I don't see any civil liberties groups making an attempt to capture and prosecute all of the illegal aliens that frequently assault our Border Patrol Agents. -- Alfonso

  • Border Shooting

We asked your opinions on the border shooting in San Ysidro.

I'm very pleased with the actions taken at the border today, forces responded quickly and brought the escalated situation to a controlled, manageable scenario. This was a very aggressive entry method into our country, but there was method behind the madness. These people (immigrants) knew that if and when they got attacked or hurt, they would be put into US care an make it across the border. Smart, but not the way. Today our passive agressive attitude was exploited and put more people (innocent) in harm then needed to be. More needs to be done, in general, to keep our country lines protected. US Supporter, follower, protector. -- Albrey

That's stupid; it is ridiculous. How can these people believe that they would get through the most secure and most used border between the United States and Mexico. Both the police, customs, and Immigration officers would be after them had they gotten through, not that that would have happened. These people are just down right stupid! -- Ashley

There are hundreds of illegals that pass through the border each day. I feel the customs agents did what they thought was necessary. If these three vans have not been stopped at the border, a high speed pursuit may have endangered many more lives on the freeway. -- Aaron

Today's attempted mass breakthrough of illegal immgrants at our border is an unmistakable indication of the grave seriousnes of the invasion of uninvited people who are visibly and invisibly storming our borders. This wave of unwanted population growth is driving down American wages, draining economic and social resources and laying waste to our environment. At a time when Americans are shedding their blood on foreign soil for the protection our homeland, why don't Americans have the courage to speak up for the defense of our sovereign borders? -- Mike

Any persons attempting to enter illegally into the U.S. especially when they try to do so thru an area that is heavily fortified with law enforcement officers, should be treated as hostile criminals and stopped by any means necessary. Wake up America these people are taking food off all our tables. -- Todd

It is appalling to hear it said that it's allright to fire on unarmed people. What is wrong with you people??? The police use so many tactics when in a highway chase. I am sure bullets aren't the best way to stop a van. It's not a rhino, it's a machine. -- Alvar

  • Sneak a Peek Barista

We asked your opinion on the new risque coffee cart in Clairemont.

I believe that their business is indeed appealing and has potential to do well, but I still believe that it's all about location and I agree with the Clairmont locals that the location they've selected was morally wrong. -- Kristin

This is a savvy business plan, however it shows a lack of morals and values in young women today. There are other ways of making an honest living. -- Alex

i think people should worry about the sneak a peak bieng next to a school and churh its not like they are naked. i think its a good sells pitch and im stoppin there tomorrow for coffee. -- Jesus

We live in San Diego. You can't walk one block without seeing some guy topless or some girl in a bikini. If a couple of girls want to sell coffee in a bikini more power to them. It's casual Friday every day of the week for them. -- Cooper

I think it's rediculous that sexuality still garners more controversy than violence. It's okay for our children to be exposed to endless mindless violence in the mass media, but the second someone shows a little skin, it's simply unacceptable. These women are wearing swimsuits, so what's the problem? -- Jon

It's really not that serious. Should we avoid the beach because of woman in bikinis? Should we cut out the swimsuit section from the Sunday Paper? No! People need to get over it and find something better to complain about. Stop picking fights with those that are just trying to make a living! -- James

The barista is only wearing a bikini! Go to any of the beaches in San Diego and you'll see girls wearing the same thing. Other businesses are only jealous for not exploiting sex appeal first. -- Brandon

Danna Barron needs to get a life and leave the girls alone. Half the high school kids shes worried about are probably boinking in the parking lot anyway. MYOB and leave the girls alone. -- Jody

My thoughts on the bikini baristas: I think it's great that a couple of young entrepreneurs have come up with a somewhat unique business model and are experiencing success. As far as those who feel the location is inappropriate? Give me a break. We live in San Diego. What are you going to see when you go to any of our fine beaches? If the idea of a bikini offends you, feel free to move to the midwest. -- Justin

I was watching your news and you did a thing on the two girls in there bikinis selling coffee. I don't think that should be aloud. Its like there selling sex but instead there selling coffee. Not a good thing to have wear kids well be walking around. I don't live to far from there and im sure not going to stop by and buy some coffee. -- Kel

If the girls are selling coffee in bakini's I think that is allright. Even though thhere is a middle and high school and church on the same street it is okay just as long as the girls don't do anything ileagal. -- Liam

It's proof that men don't degrade women, women degrade themselves. -- Vince

This country was built on the concept of small businesses, hard work, and ingenuity...these girls are just carrying on the tradition of our forefathers so i say god bless 'em. -- Dean

To bad now, Obama will want to regulate their tips, sorry girls. -- Jmes Jolly

  • ACORN

We asked you about the investigation into ACORN.

ACORN knows that they are guilty of the allegations from the video and much more. Why else would a community organization close their doors to the community? I'm just glad that the media is finally realizing what everyone on the planet has been saying about the organization. My question tonight is why did Congressman Bob Filner vote against not giving ACORN federally funded money? -- Misty

I think Acorn is one of many. that wanted to make easy money in hard times. -- Herny

I can't believe the right is spending so much time on this. How about investigating Health insurance companies who rip off such a large percentage of this country without consequence? It is completely asinine that we have so many people that can't afford to be healthy and all the right-wing in this country can focus on is a few ACORN employees. I can find you more corrupt employees at Wal-mart! -- Gregory

It's about time ACORN is investigated. And worse, our President has stated ACORN "has a place at the table" (meaning his administration will accommodate this group). ACORN and other organizations use our tax-dollars too freely and this has to stop. I suspect they may be to blame to our recent mortgage breakdown. Good riddance to ACORN -- Greg

Finally, in spite of the main stream media and the Dems the truth will be found out and it will lead right to Obama, who once served as a lawyer for Acorn and a trainer for their community organizers. -- James Jolly

What do I think what they should do with ACORN well it is simple GET RID OF IT it is simple that is how President Obama got into the White House That is one thing I know for a FACT!!! -- Henry

ACORN got caught with its' hand in the cookie jar and now they cry crocodile tears. Accept responsibilty and stop blaming everyone else for your poor judgement. -- J.

The fact that the local ACORN employee reported the undercover "pimp" and "hooker" to a National City police officer proves there was no criminal intent. This father of two was simply caught up in a politically motivated sting that smacks of McCarthyism. -- Tim

I'm so disgusted in ACORN! Regardless of who initiated the ACORN sting and exposed the illegal activity of its employees, ACORN did indeed time and time again, as seen on the videos, encourage tax evasion, human smuggling and the involvement of minor girls in the sex trafficking trade.Videos do not lie. Who in their right mind can condone such activity? This organization should be banned immediately and at the very least NOT receive the over 8 BILLION dollars in stimulus monies that has been allocated to this so called "community" organization. -- Tammy

  • Medical Marijuana

We asked your opinion on the county seeking a ban on medical marijuana dispensaries.

Citizens have voted to help patients who need marijuana. It is unfortunate that a group of elected officials are denying the sick. The question of regulating any illegal practices is for the police to determine and act upon. There is no need to reinvent the wheel of how to administer and develop dispensaries. Other cities have already set a precedence. All we need to do is follow examples that work. If our city officials are not up to the job then maybe they should be out of their jobs. -- Bruno

Patients deserve the right to safe and affordable access to their medicine. Most medical marijuana consumers don't how to grow it or are physically unable to. -- Grahm

How do they justify using our tax money to attack, arrest and try people for medical marijuana when it was legalized 13 years ago? Worse yet, many cities are now collecting taxes on the distribution of medical marijuana. -- Chris

This story that seems to continue to arise is truly ridiculous! I don't seem to understand why these law enforcements continue to raid these dispensarys which sell "MEDICAL" marijuana to legal patients who are under state law are allowed to use this. I believe these patients have every right to their medications. No one raids pharmacys that sell medications that are far more dangerous to the human body...and which are abused daily. The government allows alcohol and cigarettes to be sold in stores attracting young kids to purchase these items and people die every year from these. NO ONE has EVER died from smoking weed!! Leave the people alone! They don't bother you, so don't bother them. Its not like these dispensarys advertise smoking weed and put ads and billboards to buy their weed. Most of the time you don't even know that a dispensary is in a building because they don't put signs up on their doors or anything! The government is just looking for another way to make money from our society to waste on god knows what. Its so sad, makes an american be ashamed to even live in this so called "free" country of ours. -- Siy

You mean to say Chargers are welcoming the Baltimore Ravens NOT Oakland Raiders this upcoming Sunday. They played the Raiders on Monday night Football. -- Patrick

How much of our taxpayer money have they spent in the last year to target these people? In the midst of a financial crisis severe enough to shutdown the courthouse, the County is busy arresting medical marijuana patients. That's just stupid! -- Linda

Obviously it (marijuana) is very beneficial to people who truly suffer. But would you ever give Alcohal so much trouble..and people use it to solve their problems also, although not medical. In fact, it causes medical problems. I dont use the stuff, but I say...just legalize it, and put this endless banter to rest. -- Beth

I comepletely support prop 215. I think what the city of san diego is doing is down right criminal. With prohibition of medicinal marijuana breeds organized crime. -- John

I did not see anyone in the protest line you showed but drug addicts. Nothing medical about their need for drugs. -- James Jolly

The County of San Diego has fought medical pot from day one. First they fought the law in court and lost. Now they want to ban ways for people who need it to get it. Diane Jacob needs to start working for what the people voted for and get off her self rightous posture. She seems to think she knows what is right for everyone in the county and often does not qoute facts accurately on television. -- David

I believe that a ban on medical marijuana dispensaries is completely unwarranted. While I myself am not a medical marijuana patient, I do know several people who rely on marijuana to treat their anxiety and chemotherapy symptoms. For these people, marijuana treats their ailments more effectively than any prescription medication. They should not be denied their right to effective and SAFE treatment. The State makes financial gains from these dispensaries, and they should be supported as long as they operate within State regulations! -- Nicole

People that are terminally ill should have access to whatever they need. The marijuana shops should be monitored better by the state so they can remain open to help the sick. -- Jennifer

There seems to be a protest over anything these days. In my opinion, I think it would be less strenuous on everyone if marijuana was made legal. People will get it one way or another anyways. -- Brian

Marijuana was legalized for medical use 13 years ago. Distribution and sales were legalized in 2004. Will it take a multi-million dollar class action lawsuit before San Diego leaders take the law seriously? -- Meliana

think that the city needs to help us help them and give us the rules in black and white. We are law abiding citizens and want to follow the rules to a T. I am a supporter of medical Marijuana as well as a patient and a feature collective owner. I go round and round with the city of San Diego on a daily basis. I have called and asked for a straight answers over and over and not one person will lead me in the direction I need to go to obied by the laws that have been put into place by the people of our state. The City should have litigation brought against them for a violation of mine and all of our rights here in California. -- Hollie

  • School Board Decision

We asked your opinion on the local school board that didn't air President Obama's speech.

I was very disappointed on LMSV board of ed. decission not to show the presidents speech. If you tell the kids its not important to listen to the president next is it the teachers or even maybe policeman...how far will it go? He is the president of our great country people like the board members dont make our country look so great! -- Michelle

If the president encouraging students to stay in school and work hard is considered socialist than I must be a socialist. This level of censorship is ludacris especially since those restricting the veiwing of the speech did so before veiwing the speech themselves. -- Katherine

It is a shame that so many are asking board members to resign. The White House didn't release the speech until Monday. This wasn't enough time to review the contents of the speech. The board members had to make a quick decision, and they represented us, the other half. In a time where funds are so crucial, they made a responsible decision to put off the speech to avoid losing funds. I think that was smart. Our concerns were valid. We didn't want our kids to have to feel the divide by sending them to another room while the speech was being given. We believe Obama is a socialist, therefore our fears are valid. Once we read the speech, we were all ok with it. But, that wasn't enough time to let the district know we would be bringing our kids to school that day. It is the governments fault for rushing this through and keeping us uninformed. -- Alicia

I believe that the LMSVSD cheated the children out of a unique valuable life experience. The children are not tied to a political party. They look at the President of the United States with respect. I don't remember the President ever talking directly to the children when I was young. The children would have heard a positive message. It is a shame that this was not supported on an educational level. -- Karen

The school board's action was entirely reasonable. If these parents are so interested in having their kids listen to Obama, it can easily be accomplished at home. This would have the added advantage of allowing a parent such as myself to correct the many inaccuracies he is prone to voice. -- David

asking for the teachers/principle to resign because they didnt let there students watch the obama speech live is crazy... they let them watch it on a delay" Im more upset that the NFL might not let the charger fans watch the game live!due to the black out rules im not gonna go out and ask for the bigwigs of the nfl to resign! -- Chris

I support La Mesa Spring Valley School Districts decision not to show the broadcast of Barak Obama. Give them a raise for having the guts! -- Sheri

just because the board members decided it not show it, does means that parents can go online and show it to their children. This is just a dirty stunt to try to fire board members that are just trying to think everybody. -- Bill

Making the decision of not showing our presidents speech is a missed opportunity for our children to witness a positive message from a such historic figure of our country. -- Sarah

I was shocked that school board member Rick Winet still tries to defend his abhorrant actions. He should be removed as an example to all students that censorship and political grandstanding should not be tolerated. -- Tom

Of course, I think the speech should have been shown live! But isn't it going a little too far asking the board to resign for that only mistake they made? -- Marie

Why is it so important to show Obama's speech to school kids. The topic of the speech pertained to things that EVERY PARENT should tell their child, to wit, stay in school, get good grades, etc. GET OVER IT DEMOCRATS! -- Brian

This is regarding the vote against Mr. Wilson. The democrats need to "man-up" and stop making our government look weak. A reporter from England has poked fun at the American government. She has intimated that our leaders are unable to handle the stress and pressure of coming under fire. I quite agree with her assessment. Our "leaders" need to stop their petty squabbling. Money is tight and they waste time and money on what? For someone to make ANOTHER apology that has already bee previously accepted. KNOCK IT OFF AND FIX THE ECONOMY, BONE HEADS!!! -- Meme

  • Kanye's Antics

We asked what you thought about Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift's award speech.

Kanye West should be ashamed of himself. He ruined last night's VMA awards that was reverential to Michael Jackson from the very start and to me by grabbing the microphone from Taylor Swift's while making her acceptance speech was so beyond brutal. I really felt so bad for this young girl Taylor. Kanye West can take as long as he wants to contemplate and pls don't come back! -- Andy

Taylor Swift is a beautiful talented young star and she deserved that award. She won it fair and square! Mr. West needed to mind his manners and keep his opinions to himself, he made himself look like a complete idoit, i will never buy a Kanye West cd or support anything he has to do with. I have no respect for him, he needs to learn how to treat others as he would like to be treated! -- Lindsey

When Kanye West interupted Taylor Swifts's speech I thought it was very rude. He could of saved the announcement until after she was done speaking.Even though Beyonce did have one of the best video's I thought is was very rude. -- Liam

What Kanye did was not only downright rude, but also uncalled for. Many people thought Beyonce should have won, but did that mean they should jump on stage and ruin Swift's moment? Could he not have waited and said something after? Posted his opinipons somehwere else? Apologies are meaningless here. -- Kelley

It was refreshing to see how Beyonce and Taylor handled the incident. They are the true stars of the night. -- Donna

Kanye West has got unquestionable talent, but his attitude isn't gonna cut it. What he did in the VMA's was uncalled for. -- James

I think that Kanye West made the interruption so he could be talked about and make himself more recognized, I cannot beleive this made the news. I also think he wanted to show off his hair cut. -- David

I believe that it was rude of him to say that, but think about it again... Last year they played a prank on the Jonas Brothers, and at another awards show Borat fell on Eminem this was all just a stunt by MTV to make the VMA's gain popularity for the next year. -- Punam

Regarding West: There really should be repercussions for this type of behavior. -- Todd

When Kanye West interupted Taylor Swifts's speech I thought it was very rude. He could of saved the announcement until after she was done speaking.Even though Beyonce did have one of the best video's I thought is was very rude. -- Liam

Kanye West has an unfortunate habit of using poor timing and judgement to share his personal beliefs during very public events. The awards ceremony was meant to honor musicians and remember Michael Jackson; Mr. West may be able to apologize to Taylor Swift, but he also disrespected the focus of the night. That is something he cannot simply apologize for. -- BJ

OMG has Mr West stopped taking his medicine, or was the boose he was chugging off stage really make him think an idiot is funny. I would like to thank Beyonce for being the class act she always is. If Mr West can't control himself, he shouldn't be in the spotlight. -- Kathy

  • Health Care Reform

We asked you about the President's health care plan outlined in his speech tonight.

Every poll says most Americans do not want our health care to be nationalized. And while those numbers go up, Obama's approval ratings go down. contrary to the adage once you go black you never go back, obam will be a one-term president. -- Dean

The out burst during the president's address was totally out of line and very, very disrespectful. The President should have stopped to address it and then went on as it was an official address to Congress. If he did not, the Speaker should have, as she truly saw it as being out of line by the "gasping expression" on her face and the fact that she is the "Speaker of the House". Another reason to be disappointed in our government!!! -- Kevin

I am appalled that in our country an elected official would shout out derogatory remarks during a public speech directed to our president, the most highly elected official in our democracy. I would appreciate more balanced informative news and not views that are distortions of the truth. Stop feeding the fear mongers frenzy and give us factual information about health care reform. -- Vanessa

Anyone who is against health care reform has never been in a position where they needed care and could not get it, or has known someone who needed care and could not get it. I am blessed now to have health care where I work, but that was not always the case. When my son was young, I did not have health care for a peorid of time, and could not afford the Cobra payments needed to keep the insurance. My son at times did need health care, but I thank God it was not life threatening, and we got through it. I do not think anyone should have to go through that. I am so proud of President Obama to take such a stand. -- Helen

Many people complaint that most of the medical expensives, especially in the ER comes from illegal immigrants that use the system. How does Mr. President resolves to fix this issue? In addition, in a time like now in where we don't have money, would it be smart to try to save instead of spending more money that we don't have? -- Claudia

It is simple. Obama is a liar. The man cannot tell the truth and get what he wants. -- James Jolly

  • Obama Speaks to School Kids

We asked about the La Mesa School Board's decision to not air President Obama's speech in classrooms.

Stop the hype and hysteria. The President had a motivational message for students and posted the transcript of his speech in advance. How can anyone try and portray that as indoctrination and partisan. -- John

Regarding the LaMesa school district banning the president's speech to school children, It's good to know that censorship is alive and well in California. 2-3 minute sound bites of his speech is realy a moot point right now. LaMesa school children should know that they have no rights by the same type of people who defend the rights of a child when it comes to a women's right to choose. Hypocrasy at it's finest. -- Scott

I feel the entire Obama speech is over dramatized, I watched it and it was inspiring. I am a retired Master Sergeant and did not vote for Obama but he is our President and will back him as such. The Educators who choose against the speech are public servants and in my opinion are borderline treason with their intentionally blocking this speech seems they have their own personal agenda. The school board president in La Mesa obviously not serving her community and should resign her position. As well as the Mission Hills High School in San Marcos as they did not allow their students to hear the speech either. One teacher told her Spanish class she wasn’t going to show it as it wasn’t in Spanish. -- Tim

I cannot believe the fear and hatred shown by so many parents and leaders in our country. The President of the United States wants to encourage kids to set goals and excel in school. The reaction is to treat him like he is an enemy. What a way to teach our children respect and patriotism for our country and our President. They should be ashamed. -- Terrie

Why waste classroom time watching a politician? The school made the right choice by keeping the learning objectives of the day: math, english, and science. The political agendas need to stay at home, and the students need to stay in the books while at school. -- John

In regards to your segment on President Obama's speech on education being blacked out at a La Mesa school, it is a shame. That would have been a wonderful experience for children to hear from our nation's leader about the importance of education! Was the school and the school board trying to influence the leader's of tomorrow by choosing not to show his speech? We do live in the United States of America but this makes me feel as if we are not united at all. This is not about being a Democrat or Republican, this is about the importance of youth and education. But it sure does not seem that way. Its a shame that politics play a role in schools. Lastly, I respesct most others opinions, but President Obama was voted in by the people and thats something we should all be grateful for because we have it a lot more fortunate than other countries! - D.

As a teacher at a local college and a parent of a student at Murray Manor Elementary in La Mesa, we were upset to receive a voicemail stating our child would not see the presidents message live, yet a "edited" vesion starting on Wed. This is completly unacceptable, if this a statement from former president Bush this wouldnt have happened. I cannot wait for the boards re-election efforts, I will make sure to "edit" them from my vote. -- C.

I am shocked to hear the speaker woman for the La Mesa School Board say that the reason for not showing the President's speech was because the content of the speech "would go over" the "students' heads" because many are Special Ed or English Learner's. That is such an insult! As an educator and a parent I feel they just called all their student population stupid and ignorant. Unacceptable. If my child was in that District I would sue them and pull my kid from that District immediately. -- Susana

I think that the La Mesa School District aught to be ashamed of themselves. denying any American the right to view the presidents speech in witch is intended to inform and motivate our youth who will be be the future leaders of this country is not only is it unpatriotic it is down right wrong. If a republican President was elected I don't see schools pulling the move they did just because of individual political stances. -- James

Too bad La Mesa School Board rings of the ignornance and racism we hoped was gone. -- Tom

The decision of the La Mesa School board not to show the President's speech is irresponsible and pathetic at best. Any school who choose not to show it has either a Republican majority or are being manipulated by the Republican/Far Right Extremist's "DISTORTED SCARE TACTICS". Unfortunatley you in the media are not helping either by airing some of these distortions and not commenting on the ludicrousy of alot of their tactics. -- Eaton

I'm embarrassed to say I live in La Mesa. I can't believe this district would so blatantly censor an important speech by the President of the United States. This is not a time for partisan politics. I'm sure they would have allowed a speech by former President Bush to be shown. -- Rebecca

Congratulations to the La Mesa school board for sending the message that the nation is not waiting breathlessly for President Obama's next self-promotion. Is there some reason kids could not watch this at home, instead of during school? -- Bill

The La Mesa school district should be ashamed of themselves. They turned off our president. Very unpatriotic. I will return the favor during the next election. It is time to find their replacements. -- Dale

I honestly agree with the school board for not showing President Obama's Speech to the kids of one of our local schools. If we wanted Mr.Obama in our schools we would have asked him to join. Our kids should not be forced to watch something that many people dont agree with. I dont have kids myself but I do have nieces and nephews that attend school and they stayed home from school so they wouldnt be force to watch Mr.Obama and waste time listening to something that should not be brought to our school!!! I am very disappointed in our president and have lost a lot of respect for him. Our schools are meant for education not for the president to earn more brownie points from our kids!!! -- Alex

I strongly feel that all those Board members who prevented the President from delivering his encouraging message to school children should, in the light of their partisan politics or thinly veiled racism resign. I am under no illusion that they will do so, since shamelessness is the hallmark of the lunatic far right. -- Gordon

Yes I stand behind la mesa they are brave and are taking a stand:) -- Michael

Stop the hype and hysteria. The President had a motivational message for students and posted the transcript of his speech in advance. How can anyone try and portray that as indoctrination and partisan. -- John

I personally think that the schools should have had all students watch the presidents speech, and if they did not show they should have been marked absent, what kind of country are we living in that when the president is giving a speech especially about the kids education that parents think it is political. Lets get with the program and get the radicals out of the political arena. -- Jim

i am a high school student and i believe that the video should be shown in schools, he is the president of our united states and it wasnt a political speach it was a motivational speach. -- Brittnie

I am appalled by their decision. We should be teaching our children to respect the president. He had good intentions to motivate the youth. The school has only further hurt their children's growth. I hope that these types of ideas do not continue otherwise we are not heading into the right decision. -- Sabrina

I am upset and disappointed in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District for taking away this historical moment from my 5th Grade Daughter. To say that the content would go "over the heads" of students is offensive and belitting, going against the very heart of Mr. Obama's message. The President attempted to inspire our children to do their best and encourage them to reach their ultimate potential while the LMSVSD completely insulted them by implying they are not bright enough to understand his message. The schools had given parents the option to opt out of viewing the feed; the board's decision to not show it at all is unfortunate. -- Corinne

The La Mesa Board did the correct thing. Remember this speech was toned down from the original version. And we should not have our children forced to see this, there are other ways to show it. -- Mickey

It is important for the kids to hear the presidential speech as this it was not negative and posed no harm. My child who is a 1st grader heard it at his school in Jamul and found it inspirational. -- Mike

on the school board decision to sensor the President of the United States!!!! -- Rafael

Good for the school board, I have heard all I want to hear from Obama. -- James Jolly

  • Shawne Merriman Arrest

We asked for your thoughts about the incident involving Shawne Merriman and Tila Tequila.

Kudos for Shawn Merriman for trying to stop one more intoxicated driver on our highways. Is is a shame that she was so "out of it" that she had to resort to having him arrested for a crime that I believe she committed! Thank you Shawn for being the nice guy you are. Lights Out, baby! -- Chris

That Tila Tequila girl is a liar! She drank alcohol all the time on her MTV show. She claims she's allergic? Unless Champane isn't alcohol! Who does she think shes fooling? -- Liz

When Tila Tequila said in her twitter comment that she was allergic to alchohal I think that she was lieing. If her stage name is Tequila don't you think she's had it onece or twice? -- Liam

We are going to have to wait until the Sheriff reports become available. If Tila displayed any characteristics of being intoxicated, the reports might shed some light. If Tila is allergic to alcohol, maybe the witnesses at the night club might give us some insight. Altogether, we should all wait for the truth to come out. As for Merrimans case, I only hope he had a valid reason to act or react the way he did. -- Gabe

Actions speak louder than words. Merriman's judgment again comes into question and his actions are not in the best interest of his team or teammates. The is no I in TEAM -- Rico

Tila Tequila claims she is allergic to alcohol when she was taking shots left and right on her show, thanks for ruining the season. -- Veronica

I'm confused, are we playing the Raiders...or becoming the Raiders? -- Vince

I think Shawne Merriman needs to worry about playing football since he missed all last year to injuries instead of this distraction. And how is Tila TEQUILA allergic to alcohol??? -- Daniel

  • Training Noise

We asked your thoughts on the noise from military training at Camp Pendleton.

We live at the NE end of the base, in a secluded area of De Luz. Our house shakes with the landing of each shell. But we believe it's a small price to pay for the training of our young men, and our freedom. Our nephew is in the Marines, and the training he received at Camp Pendleton has served him well through two tours in Iraq. -- Steve

Our military members are risking their lives every day, and thousands are being killed and seriously wounded. Maybe the Camp Pendleton neighbors who feel so inconvenienced by the noise should think about how "inconvenienced" they would be if we didn't have these brave men and women defending our freedom. -- Stacey

Regarding Camp Pendleton Noise, I agree the noise resulting from training may be loud and disruptive to our lives. (Imagine living on base!) However it is essential for our Marines to be trained to ensure our safety. If the noise is so disruptive perhaps those who cannot deal with it should relocate; they did in fact choose to live by Camp Pendleton. Fortunately Camp Pendleton is not moving it was made for Marines to conduct training. Show our Marines some support they have after all chosen a job where one day they might sacrifice their life for all of ours. -- Jovi

Camp Pendleton has been a training area for Marines for quite some time. I would venture to say it has been there longer than some of the homes which surround it. Although the noise may be slightly disruptive, let's allow the Marines to train so they can continue to protect our country and the freedoms which we enjoy. -- Kara

Local Home Owner Complains about noise near his house: In my opinion, Marines have to train! They give thier lives for our freedom. Excersising your right to Freedom of Speech and complain about noise is pathetic. Please, give the man a pair of ear plugs or the name to a Real Estate agent. Go Marines!!! -- Angel

I fully appreciate our military and their need to train, but their explosives training exercises rattle our windows all day and well into the night. We have no choice: we must live near the city in order to work. The military does not. If they would drive just 1 or 2 hours inland, they would have more than enough space to set off all the explosives they want - day or night. Must they perform such loud, window-rattling training in such a crowded area as San Diego? Do noise ordinances not apply to military ordinances? -- Ford

The marines need to have the best training they can have. They've sacrificed they're time and strength to serve our country, we should cope with the noises willingly and respect the additional training going on. -- Joshua

Saw the story tonight about Camp Pendleton. Our family has lived near the base since the 50's. The sound of the practice is actually less than it was during Viet Nam. Personally, The base was here before we all moved in. If it gets the soldiers home safe, I say practice all you want. You moved here next to a military installation, this is part of the charm. signed, Used to the noise. -- Barb

My husband is one of the marines out on Camp Pendleton shooting artillery. I would rather loose nights of sleep from the noise than one of his friends or another marine not come home from deployment. It is necessary for their training to be able to practice using the artillery, so when they get into a combat situation they know their job and how to react. It's better for them to over-prepare and over-train than to be unprepared. -- Amy

More people should be respectful and glad the Marines are doing what they do to provide us with the "freedom" to go to the drug store and get ear plugs and stop nit picking about the necessary noise of defense readiness! -- Dean-Ross

The training on pendleton is loud, but necessary for the freedom's we all love. Its to bad that guy just dont see it. -- Rick

I just heard your story on the noise the Marines make and the interview with the guy at his computer. Please what was he expecting when he bought a home next to a base. That base has been there for decades providing an location with which to train those that protect us. Don't forget MCRD used to be in Point Loma making Pendelton more than appropriate in location. Your interviewee states the Marines are above the law, well I would argue their the ones that allow us to be free to make the laws. -- Steve

I live in Fallbrook, and we hear the sound of Marine artillery often in our area. We also get frequent flyovers of Marine helicopters. I don't object to the sound because this is essential practice for our front line troops. They must be prepared for combat and that is Camp Pendleton's mission. Anyone moving to an area in the vicinity of the base should know that. -- Robert

I have lived in Oceanside for over 15 years, and I work at the San Onofre Nuclear Generation Station on Camp Pendleton. Personally, I enjoy the sound of live-fire training, and the aircraft fly-overs. The sound reminds us all of the sacrifice that is required to keep our coutry safe, and our freedoms secure. -- Todd

If you CHOOSE to live near a military base, you CHOOSE to live near a training zone. Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines protect you. If you don't want to listen to them train to do this, you need to move. Tell Hack (or whatever his name was) to move away from the San Diego area. This is a military area and obviously he wants a bunch of bad shots protecting him. Bet if he was sitting on their practice field, he would have wanted them to practice MORE! -- Tammy

I am so tired of people like Mr. Hanks complaining about things like this.... (The Marine training story) We all know that the Marines train at Camp Pendleton and I'm willing to bet that Camp Pendleton was an active base when he chose to live 7 miles away. He and all the other people who wish to complain about this should either thank these men for doing they're job or get off his tail and do what they are doing... Thank you for listening. I hope this makes it to a few more people. -- William

If you live near any military base you have to expect a little noise. If you don't like it you should move. The base has been there a lot longer than than any of us have. -- Joe

Regarding your story on the noise from Camp Pendelton practice - We live in northern Carlsbad, within earshot of the noise as well. To us, that's the sound of freedom. The base was here before we were and our marines need to practice. Semper Fi. -- Carl

If the Marines have to use their machine guns and tanks they should. The noise shold not matter to civilians it is for the Marines benefit and training -- Liam

Im a marine wife, my husband is currently serving in Iraq..he's been there for over 6 months. It really bothers me when people complain about the training here on camp pendleton. they should've thought about that before they moved close to a military base. I live on base and it doesnt bother me in fact it makes me grateful because they are training to keep our country safe. if they dont like the noise then they should just move! its not like they can move the whole base! -- Jennifer

To bad for the poor civilians who have to hear gunfire. Go to HELL, that is where these troops are going. -- James

I think that the noise created by the Marines during their training is necessary for their success. It is not very frequent that those living near the base are disturbed that much. If the people living near the base are bothered that much they should have thought about that before purchasing a home near a Marine Base. -- Ted

As for the Marines training on Pendleton, they're training to protect our freedom. A little noise for us is a sacrifice that pales in comparison to theirs. Semper Fi! -- James

While I agree that the noise generated during the militaries manuvuers is annoying, it is a small price to pay for our freedom. -- LeighAnne

Noise!? Thats all the complaining is about? Thats the noise of freedom! .. They HAVE to train! .. I love that sound. -- Tara

  • Health Care Reform

We asked about the debate over health care reform.

Something needs to be done. My daughter and I had 2 surgeries and I'm in debt for thousands and I had insurance. Now I just had to go to the hospital for 5 days. I'm in so much debt now because of our lousy health care system. WE NEED IT CHANGED NOW. -- Chuck

I am profoundly opposed to any government health care plan for many moral reasons but primarily because our government has a long history of not being able to manage anything in a cost efficient way. -- Mark

No socialized, government-run healthcare! This will ruin the country and jeopardize everyone’s health. It doesn't work in Canada, so why does Obama think it'll work here? And who's going to foot the bill? Easy, the hard-working taxpayers will! I have absolutely no trust in the government running healthcare and it's only the beginning of Obama's master plan to create big government and welfare (nanny) state with massive give-aways and entitlement programs. I’ve read some of the bill and it’s chocked full of rules that’ll push everyone into government-run healthcare. Enough is enough! -- Greg

It's too bad that some citizens have to use shouting and intimidation to hijack public forums. San Diego was prepared and kept it civil, but some of the comments, i.e., "I don't want government run health care," reveal how uninformed some people are. MEDICARE is a government funded program and no one wants that taken away. It would behoove all citizens to read the facts and allow all citizens to participate in the public forums rather then screaming lies. -- Anita

we are americans we pay taxes who are young and old. Us americans deserve health care insurance from the goverments programs.People need help these days from big brother so we need health for everyone. -- Douglas

I understand that health care is a unique commodity that can't be left entirely to free market forces, but I don't understand the rush. I keep hearing that we need reform "right now", rather than "we need the reform that's right." Perhaps if all sides really worked long and hard on this issue rather than rushing something through, it would be supported by both sides of the aisle. Who knows --- the members of congress might even be willing to subscribe to the plan! Until they're willing to get on board and put their own health care into the "public option" why should we be expected to do so? -- Kristine

I watched the in Penn I watched the whole I guess you call it a debte but there was only one small instdent inside and I would not call it very physical I think you should report the news as it really is there is alot of entertainment with out you making somthing out to more than it is -- August
