We asked what you thought about how the swine flu is being handled by the U.S. and Mexico, and by the media.
I think that the us is to quick to blame mexico for every thing. in this case it's the swine flu. -- Cruz
Today I was notified by an anonymous Customs Officer assigned to the San Diego Border that they are not allowed to wear masks protecting them from the swine flu. Their reasoning is they dont want to create panic. What is more important, public safety by preventing a disease to themselves and family or creating panic which the media has done already. The directive came from Customs and Border Protection headquarters. Could you investigate and possibly do a segment on this? I believe this is a violation of OSHA's safety guidelines. OSHA requires an employee to practice safety in the workplace by using gloves, eye and ear protection, helmets, etc... Some federal officers have families that include children and do not want to contaminate their young ones. So the question is this, what is more important; preventing public panic or safeguarding the health of federal american officers? -- F
I'm not surprised that people in Mexico don't want to take responsibility for this outbreak of the swine flu. All too often they refuse to take responsibility for anything that's wrong in their country. There's a reason for this, and you can be the judge. But, in my opinion Mexicans don't want anything negative opinions of them that would distance them from us. -- Greg
i think it has been going pretty well since i live in Tijuana we are all trying to keep safe wearing mask and stay indoors. The media say that it is stabilizing. I dont know about America there is only 5 cases -- Alez
I am a little scared about the swine flu because I ride the bus and trolley to a class I attend to Monday through Friday and I am wondering if I should start wearing a mask like other people are already. How do I know if I have it and I am not feeling sick yet? I heard some people died already. Should I be alarmed or what? I don't know what to think, it's driving me crazy! I'm only 35 and I would like to live at least to see 40! I tell you what though,I always wash my hands when I get home and before I leave home! -- Teresa
I think our government is not doing enough. This is a serious issue with the potential of becoming worst. Let alone there is no known cure. Are we just gonna wait till 150 Americans die, and 2,000 Americans are sick. It's a sad day when other countries like Russia, and China are more concerned for a virus that's an ocean away. Than us, a country that's right next door, and also has to face illegal immigration from Mexico. I think the media needs to do more in exposimg the faults in what our country is doing to stop the virus. Because who knows, next time it may not be the swine flu. Could be antrax, or the plague courtousy of al-quadda -- Lincoln
Responding to Mexico's skepticism on whether the swine flu started there isn't worth the effort. It's time to seal the border and stop all traffic coming in through our border crossings until this virus is contained and we're absolutely sure it's not going to inundate and affect our society any more than it already has. -- Greg
