State Route-67

We asked your opinion about the plans to improve safety along State Route 67.

I live in sdce in Ramona and the problem is too many people speeding. Every morning you can watch cars racing out of the estates on San Vicente to get in front of eachother when it goes from 2 lanes to one. It also happens on Dye rd. and also 67. I have never seen a car pulled over for speeding and its done consistantly. -- Shawn

Safety improvments to SR-67 will require highway widening and installation of median barriers. Under current funding scenarios, these greatly needed safety improvements might not be constructed for another 10-20 years. To expedite these improvements, substantial citizen involvement will required in the form of contact with local, state and federal legislators. -- Mike

My family's prayers go out to Alexandria's family. I have lived in Ramona for more than 6 years and have seen many accidents on 67 due to speeders (idiots) and drunk drivers (also idiots). Hwy. 67 needs to be widened to 2 lanes each direction with a barrier between them, just like the hill north of Lakeside. Hopefully the CHP will be able to control the speeders as well as the drunk drivers when the increase their patrol of our deadly highway. -- Jim

I think that SR67 is only as unsafe as you make it, you can always drive slower and keep your distance if you are not sure of what is ahead. Nobody forces anybody to speed or drive like a maniac, there are also alterante routes. -- Luis

I recall another accident on the 67 recently resulting in deaths not too long ago. I drove by yesterday while the filming of the morning was happening. My heart goes out to the families. I rarely go over the hill, living in Ramona. Because of the dangers on 67 and the 78. The mornings and evening can be nerve racking. The weekends can be worse, due to people not knowing the road. The locals are the speeders. Well, In my opinion and the weekend warriors. Chill on the 67!!! -- Mike

As far as Hwy. 67 goes you can have CHP patrols every 15 minutes but until Cal Trans puts up "K" rails down the median strip innocent people will continue to die. How is it that Cal Trans can erect 10 miles of "K" rails on I 15 and can't get off their collective ass to save lives on Hwy 67. -- Robert

They should lower the speed and insert multiple road cameras just like the ones on Highway 10 through the Phoenix Arizona area. They work and really slow down the traffic. -- Robin

The problems on SR 67 are Not solely the design of the road itself, but the driving habits and actions of those who use it. If everyone drove more responsibly, carefully and sober, there would be far fewer tragedies. -- Geoffrey

Highway 67 definitely needs a renovation. People do need to drive more carefully, but lets face it, there will always be wreck less drivers out there. Besides raising awareness about safe driving, actual work needs to be done on that road to make it more safe. -- Khara

As the brother of Alexandria Drake, I believe that putting up some sort of barrier would dramatically reduce more incidents like this. No one should have to see paramedics apply cpr to their beautiful sister then seeing her carted off into the air ambulance over reckless idiots. I love you Alex -- Paul McKeirnan
