We asked about possible mandatory water cutbacks.
I definitely think people need to cut back on watering their lawns. I see people who have timed sprinklers and half of the water goes onto the sidewalk. Restricting lawn watering would conserve a great amount of water and this would be a great step. -- Stacey
I am frustrated with the City of San Diego and their issues. Now the citizens of San Diego are going to be charged a service charge for extra water useage. The city doesn't even come out to read the water meters on a regular basis. Maybe they should get their records accurate before ripping off the citizens of San Diego! -- Mike
I agree with measures that nee to be done and 20% is not unreasonable for most people however, I can no longer do 20% less and worry about a penalty for haveing conserved for over 15 years. I do not wash my car at homeunless I do it over my lawn. I water my dirt and weeds about 6 times a year. Not enough for grass to come through. We went to the expense of buying a water efficient washing machine, Instead of letting watter run down the drain whike we wait for it to get hot, we fill a boouck and use it for the few roses we have out front and a! lso for the bird bath. My showers are normally less than 3 minutes, my wife maybe 5. We dont flush our toilets any more than necessary. Yet I see people using more water on their cars and lawns in a day than my wife and I use in aweek and when the madatory rationing goes into effect, I will be penalized for having conserved all along andthey will get by and still be able to water their lawn at least twice a week and be showing that they saved some. I dont think that part will be right and I dont know how it can be fair to me.

I feel the City Councel should look into trying to find ways to purify and utilize the ocean. It doesn't make sense to me that we are having a water shortage when we practicaly live on the water. Think Green. --

It seems rather hypocritical that we are being told there is not enough water for San Diegans and threatened with penalties for water usage when all around San Diego new housing units are being built!

The City of San Diego is sidestepping the challenge that we face with water shortage. Our backyard is the Pacific Ocean and desalination is the answer to the problem. Carlsbad has already started this process, as well as Santa Barbara. A hotel in Cabo San Lucas has it's own desalination plant. Why does a city that projected to be the next New York City so primative? We are going backward instead of forward. -- Yvonne
